Fuel Economy
If you want to save money at the pump, the 2016 Ford Escape is your best bet. When you buy new, you can choose between three fuel-efficient engine options. The base engine kicks things off with 22 city/31 highway mpg. That's more than you'll earn with any of the 2010 engine options.
For 2016, the thriftiest engine is the turbocharged, 1.6-liter four-cylinder option. With front-wheel drive, it achieves 23 city/32 highway mpg. With the used 2010 Ford Escape, the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine gave you the best fuel economy, with 20/28 mpg.
For maximum power, the 2016 Escape gives you the turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. In spite of its impressive output - 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque - it still gives you excellent fuel economy. Earn up to 22/30 mpg with this engine. Compare that to 2010's most powerful engine, which only gives you 18/26 mpg.
Safety
We know safety is important to you, which is why we recommend you test-drive the 2016 Ford Escape. Its antilock disc brakes are especially impressive, giving you the power to come to quick stops. You'll notice the difference when you compare braking performance in the 2010 model, which came to a stop over longer distances. The 2016 Ford Escape offers a range of high-tech items that simply didn't exist when the used 2010 Ford Escape was built.
To start, Ford's MyKey system lets you set speed and stereo volume limitations for teenage drivers or valets. The rearview camera improves your view as you back out of narrow lanes. You'll also want to check out the suite of systems designed to heighten driver vigilance. These include the blind-spot warning system, which lets you know about vehicles you might not be able to see.
