2020 Ford EcoSport vs Ford Edge
The Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge are both great vehicles in their own classes. But which is better for you? This is an unlikely matchup, given the difference in size between the subcompact EcoSport and midsize Edge. After all, the Ford Edge is over two feet longer than its smaller sibling. But both are five-seater sport utility vehicles made by a great automaker. And if you don’t need the extra storage space of the Edge, there’s a strong case to make for the Ford EcoSport. We’ll cover the main differences, as well as a few surprises, in this comparison guide.
Price: 2020 Ford EcoSport
It should come as no surprise that the 2020 Ford EcoSport is a great deal more affordable than the Ford Edge. The EcoSport comes with standard features that include the SYNC infotainment interface, 4.2-inch display, two USB ports, six-speaker audio system, cloth upholstery, four-way manually adjustable front seats, MyKey driver system, and rearview camera. The latest development is that Wi-Fi hot spot is now also standard. All of this for just $20,485.
Meanwhile, the 2020 Ford Edge is almost $11,000 more expensive. There are additional standard features on the Edge that the base EcoSport doesn’t offer—10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, SYNC 3 infotainment system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and satellite radio. But if you want these features, they’re available on the EcoSport for just a few thousand more, still saving you $8K over the standard Edge.
Fuel Economy: 2020 Ford EcoSport
Another distinct advantage of driving a smaller vehicle is the fuel you’ll save. If you’re primarily a highway driver, it’s sixes between the EcoSport and Edge. Both get 29 highway miles per gallon. But if you mostly drive around town or in stop-and-go traffic, the EcoSport has a big advantage. The subcompact Ford SUV gets 27 city miles per gallon compared to the Edge’s 21 city mpg.
Maneuverability: 2020 Ford EcoSport
Tight corners, narrow parking spots, crowded lots, and city driving don’t pose a problem to the 2020 Ford EcoSport. Its turning radius is much better than that of the Edge. And thanks to responsive steering and limited body roll, you feel in control at all times. By comparison, the Edge is a sturdy, stately, and serene drive but less maneuverable in tight spots.
Front Passenger Room: 2020 Ford EcoSport
This one may come as a surprise, but the 2020 Ford EcoSport and Edge both seat five passengers and the EcoSport actually boasts more front legroom than its older sibling. Of course, there’s more cargo room and second-row legroom in the Edge. But if you only have kids in the back seats and don’t need a ton of room in back, either SUV does just as well as the other.
