2019 Ford Expedition vs Chevrolet Tahoe
Monster SUVs like the 2019 Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe are built to tow heavy toys and haul big families in style. Which should you choose? Our comparison guide gives you the details.
Premium Squad Hauler: 2019 Ford Expedition
When you’re shopping the full-size SUV segment, you’re looking for a strong, capable ride and a roomy, comfortable cabin. And that’s why you should put the Expedition at the top of your wish list. This Ford classic supplies adult-friendly legroom in all three rows (something you won’t find in other three-row SUVs). And you can even deck out this cabin in style, with high-end options like leather upholstery heated-and-ventilated front seats.
Back in the Chevrolet Tahoe, there’s also a lot to like, such as the quiet ride and sublime seating comfort in the first two rows. But, if you want a third row that’s comfortable for adults as well as kids, you may find the Tahoe a little lacking.
Most Capable: 2019 Ford Expedition
Do you have a giant boat or a couple of horses that need towing? You’ll be pleased to know that the Expedition can tow up to 9,000 pounds. That’s some serious muscle. Of course, the Chevrolet Tahoe is also pretty capable, towing up to 8,400 pounds. If you need to move anything weighing more than that though, you’re going to need the Expedition.
Savviest Infotainment Setup: 2019 Ford Expedition
You’ll love Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system, especially if you’re a smartphone fan. Its Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features not only display apps on the 8-inch touchscreen, but they give you access to your phone’s voice controls. Distraction definitely stays at a minimum. The Expedition comes standard with four USB ports, an important part of any device-loving family’s daily drive.
Chevy’s Infotainment 3 system is a close second. This system also includes complete smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can use your maps and music apps without actually looking away from the road. We do think that the system’s touchscreen could be a bit more responsive; a tech lag is not something you want to deal with when you’re stuck in traffic.
Strongest in Safety: 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe
Chevy’s Enhanced Driver Alert package is optional on the base Tahoe and standard on the LT and up, making the Chevy our choice for high-tech safety. This bundle of driver aids includes everything from lane departure mitigation to low-speed automatic emergency braking. Besides warning you of danger, these systems’ mere presence can bolster your peace of mind. And, like most Chevys, the Tahoe comes standard with OnStar emergency telematics. Should you break down in the middle of nowhere or get into an accident, this system is designed to send help.
Ford doesn’t offer a telematics system like OnStar, but you can add driver aids to your 2019 Expedition. Options like lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control keep you on the straight-and-narrow.
The Chevrolet Tahoe is strong and capable, but the 2019 Ford Expedition is stronger and more capable. We think you’ll agree that it’s the right three-row SUV for your next family adventure.
