2020 Ford Edge vs Kia Soul
Choosing between the 2020 Ford Edge and Kia Soul can be complicated. If you already know what you want in a crossover, however, LaFayette Ford’s comparison guide can help. We’ve got all the details you need to drive home in the crossover perfectly suited to your unique needs.
Plush Modern Comfort: 2020 Ford Edge
Since it’s a midsize crossover, the Edge naturally offers you more passenger space than the subcompact Soul. In addition to the extra elbow and legroom, you’ll also love this Ford’s comfortable seats, with their supportive side bolsters and optional leather upholstery. The cabin is also isolated from wind and road noise, giving your ride around town a luxury vibe.
Although it’s not quite as roomy as the Edge, the Soul does make good use of the space it does offer. Seating is also supportive and comfortable, with a decent array of adjustments. However, some wind and road noise do make their way into the cabin, which sometimes makes it difficult to hear your favorite podcasts and passengers.
Streetwise Technology: 2020 Ford Edge
Both the 2020 Ford Edge and Kia Soul will wow you with their tech features. Both come standard with their own respective infotainment systems. Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system includes an 8-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. The Soul features a 7-inch touch screen and the same smartphone integration features, which display apps on the central touch screen for quick, safe access.
The Edge also comes standard with an impressive array of driver safety aids. That means features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking keep you safer at no extra cost. This standard safety lineup gives Ford’s crossover the Edge in this category. The Soul offers a similar array of safety aids, but they aren’t standard equipment.
Raw Power: 2020 Ford Edge
For the most in crossover capabilities, choose the Edge. The strongest of its two engine options gives you 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque for a speedy performance. Properly equipped, this sporty crossover SUV can tow up to 3,500 pounds, making it the best choice for drivers with Jet Skis at home.
Although the Kia Soul isn’t recommended to tow a trailer, it does supply a pretty punchy performance. The Soul also offers two powertrains, the speediest of which makes 201 horses and 195 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the Edge, however, the Soul does not offer all-wheel drive for improved safety on wet or icy roads.
Fuel-Efficient Travel: 2020 Kia Soul
While the Edge would certainly beat it in a race, the Kia Soul earns better fuel mileage. Depending on trim model and powertrain, the Soul is EPA-rated for up to 31 mpg combined (29 city/35 highway mpg).
As the larger, more powerful crossover, it’s only natural that the Edge isn’t quite as efficient. However, it does a decent job of balancing all that power with efficiency, earning up to 24 mpg combined (21/29 mpg).
With its savvy tech features and efficient performance, the 2020 Kia Soul gives you a component of coolness and some at-the-pump savings. However, the 2020 Ford Edge gives you more passenger space—a lot more—as well as slick tech features and premium performance. In short, the Edge is the best crossover for the job.
