2020 Ford Escape vs Nissan Rogue
When you’re choosing between the 2020 Ford Escape and Nissan Rogue, there’s a lot to consider. Both compact crossover SUVs strive to deliver a comfortable, fuel-efficient ride, along with a generous helping of sporty utility. To help you make an informed choice, our comparison guide takes a closer look at each model.
Modern Cabin: 2020 Ford Escape
After a complete redesign, the 2020 Escape is ready to wow you. Featuring updated style inside and out, this Ford crossover will turn heads. But it’s also ready to wrap you in comfort. Friendly modern features, like sliding second-row seats and optional front-row heating and ventilation, compliment two rows of roomy seating.
Like the Escape, the Nissan Rogue supplies plenty of room for tall passengers in both rows. And it, too, offers plenty of upscale options. We especially love the soft, breathable leather upholstery. However, because of the Rogue’s narrow range of seating adjustments, some drivers may struggle to find the perfect spot behind the wheel.
Standard Safety: It’s a Draw!
Like many small crossovers these days, both the 2020 Ford Escape and the Nissan Rogue come standard with plenty of lifesaving potential. The new Escape includes the Ford Co-Pilot360 bundle of safety aids. That means every trim model helps you avoid trouble with lane keeping assistance, pre-collision detection with automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert. You can also count on Nissan to have your back, because every Nissan Rogue trim model includes all of the aforementioned safety features.
Premium Performer: 2020 Ford Escape
Performance is one of the new Escape’s biggest attractions. This crossover offers three engine options, so you can choose the one that suits both your budget and your performance needs. The Escape SE Sport combines a speedy ride with a hybrid performance; its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (200 horsepower) appeals to both driving enthusiasts and green-minded shoppers. For an even faster ride, check out the Escape’s optional turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (250 horses).
Because it only offers one powertrain, the Nissan Rogue isn’t nearly as configurable. It does, however, supply a sure and steady performance with its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (170 horses). Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available for a dash of extra traction on wet or wintery roads.
Maximum Efficiency: 2020 Ford Escape
In addition to its sportiest performance, the Escape actually gives you better fuel economy. Its status as the thriftier crossover comes in part because of its new hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. Those will help you earn up to 41 mpg combined (44 city/37 highway mpg). With the 2020 Escape’s thriftiest gas-powered engine, however, you’ll still earn better fuel economy than a Rogue, with EPA ratings of up to 30 mpg combined (27/33 mpg).
A front-wheel-drive Nissan Rogue earns the line’s highest EPA ratings: 29 mpg combined (26/33 mpg). Those figures drop slightly when you add the weight of the all-wheel drive system, coming in at 27 mpg combined (25/32 mpg).
We like the Rogue’s best effort, but the fully redesigned Escape is the real star of this competition. Shoppers who want the red carpet treatment – including roomy comfort, cutting-edge technology, and sporty-yet-efficient performance – should stick to the 2020 Ford Escape.
