2020 Ford Explorer vs GMC Acadia
The 2020 Ford Explorer is a powerhouse in sales, and when you really look into it, it’s easy to see why. To show you what we mean, we’re comparing the Explorer to another midsize sport utility vehicle: the 2020 GMC Acadia. By the end of this comparison guide, we think you’ll have a pretty good idea why the Explorer’s numbers are so good.
Interior: 2020 Ford Explorer
Both the 2020 Ford Explorer and the GMC Acadia are three-row SUVs. The Explorer seats six people, while the Acadia seats seven--or six if you opt for captain’s chairs on the second row. Despite offering the same number of seats and being in the same class for size, we’re not surprised that the Explorer does far better when it comes to cargo space. In the Explorer, you get 18.2 cubic feet behind the third-row seat, 47.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 87.8 cubes total. On the other hand, the Acadia offers only 12.8 cubic feet of cargo space in back, 41.7 cubes if you fold down the back row, or 79 cubic feet total. Simple math shows that the Explorer offers far more.
Another difference is that while the Ford Explorer has sufficient legroom for adults in all three rows of seating, the second row of the Arcadia is barely adequate and the back seat is really only for children. And don’t look too closely at Arcadia’s interior or you’ll find the subpar materials throughout that keep its otherwise tidy and functional cabin from really shining.
After talking up how roomy the 2020 Ford Explorer is, you might be understandably concerned about its fuel economy. Bigger vehicles tend to burn more gasoline. But the Ford Explorer bucks that trend, putting up numbers that bring it on par with those of the GMC Acadia. Slightly better even. The 2020 Explorer gets 21 city miles and 28 highway miles per gallon. That’s a small improvement over the Arcadia’s fuel economy, which experts tell us is the same for city miles but 27 miles per gallon on highways.
Towing Capacity: 2020 Ford Explorer
The 2020 Ford Explorer is no slouch either. It can pull heavy loads with vigor. Compare the towing capacity numbers and you be the judge. The 2020 Explorer has a maximum towing capacity of 5,600 pounds. That’s a significant improvement over the 2019 Explorer and is a much higher towing capacity than most others in its class. The 2020 Arcadia tows just up to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped, a distant second in this matchup.
Seeing is believing, so come in and take a test drive of the Ford Explorer and see the difference for yourself at your LaFayette Ford dealer.
