2020 Ford Explorer vs Kia Telluride
As modern midsize crossovers, the 2020 Ford Explorer and Kia Telluride have roomy comfort and sporty performance in common. So which crossover should you choose? LaFayette Ford’s comparison guide takes a closer look.
Distinctive Style: 2020 Kia Telluride
When Kia first rolled out the Telluride, it marked a new era for the automaker. Instead of being another lower-priced option in the midsize crossover segment, the Telluride aims to please with its modern comfort features and distinctive design. Indeed, the Telluride is easy to spot coming down the street. With its wide-set rectangular headlights and rugged stance, it’s a midsize crossover with a style all its own.
Of course, the 2020 Ford Explorer is also pretty easy on the eyes. Unlike the Telluride, which looks completely unique, the Explorer takes design cues from its fellow Fords. But it, too, offers its own brand of style, with a tall stance and plenty of chrome trim.
Comfy, Convenient Cruising: 2020 Ford Explorer
When it comes to modern cruising, the Ford Explorer takes the proverbial cake. Fully redesigned for 2020, this three-row crossover is as roomy and comfortable as it’s ever been, with increased passenger space for up to seven passengers. And, thanks to its smoother ride, the Explorer is an excellent road trip companion. Finally, the Explorer’s standard tech lineup includes helpful driver aids (like forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking) and modern infotainment gear (including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto).
When it comes to comfy, modern cruising, the Kia Telluride is a close second. The cabin offers spacious, comfortable seating in all three rows. Depending on Telluride trim model, you can get up to six USB ports, which are spread throughout the cabin so that everyone can charge their own devices during long trips. However, the Explorer comes standard with some features you won’t find on the Telluride, such as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Max Towing: 2020 Ford Explorer
To tow the biggest toys, you’re going to need the Explorer. Properly equipped, the Explorer’s new rear-wheel-drive platform helps you tow up to 5,600 pounds. The Kia Telluride is slightly less capable. But, with max tow ratings of up to 5,000 pounds, it’ll certainly tow a boat and maybe even a small camper.
Sporty Performance: 2020 Ford Explorer
If you’ve got off-road territory to visit, put the newly redesigned Explorer at the top of your wish list. As part of its redesign, the Explorer has gone back to a rear-wheel drive platform, improving handling on curvy mountain roads. And four-wheel drive is optional, giving you the extra traction you need to take on off-road terrain.
Like its fellow midsize crossovers, the Kia Telluride comes standard with front-wheel drive, so it’s not quite as deft around turns. All-wheel drive is optional, which improves traction on a rainy road. It’ll even help you out on a light trail. However, if you want the sportiest performance, you need the Explorer.
The 2020 Kia Telluride has a lot of style, but the 2020 Ford Explorer is the most substantial choice. Want to see for yourself? Swing by LaFayette Ford in Fayetteville, NC, and test-drive Ford’s redesigned midsize crossover today!
