2020 Ford Fusion vs Kia Optima
The 2020 Ford Fusion and Kia Optima are two popular sedans with a lot in common. With so much to love — including road-trip-friendly seating comfort and smartphone-savvy infotainment — it can be tough to choose between these midsize sedans. At LaFayette Ford, we’re committed to helping Fayetteville, North Carolina shoppers drive home in the model best suited to their individual needs.
Generous Tech Lineup: It’s a Tie!
When you’re shopping for the latest in on-road technology, the 2020 Ford Fusion and Kia Optima are equally impressive. Both models deliver street-smart infotainment systems and premium audio upgrades.
The 2020 Fusion features Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system. It supplies everything you need for hands-free access to your smartphone, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The 8-inch touch screen is easy to figure out and quick to respond to your demands, features that really come in handy in traffic. If you want an audio upgrade, Ford obliges with a premium 12-speaker Sony sound system.
Inside the Kia Optima, you’ll also find plenty of ways to stay connected. Like the Fusion, this sedan gives you a plethora of ways to charge devices, including USB ports and a wireless charging pad. The Optima’s infotainment system also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can access apps from the central touch screen or via voice control.
Long-Term Comfort: 2020 Ford Fusion
The 2020 Fusion is our first choice for road trip cruising, thanks to its cushy seating and abundance of legroom. The seats are also nicely shaped, keeping passengers comfortable for hours at a time. If you love a good conversation, you’ll be pleased to note that this Ford sedan keeps road noise at a minimum.
The 2020 Optima also offers generous seating comfort and passenger space. Like the Fusion, this Kia sedan also supplies modern options, like leather upholstery and seating ventilation, for increased comfort. However, the suspension is a little stiff, which can cut down on ride comfort.
Strong Safety Lineup: 2020 Kia Optima
In government crash tests, the 2020 Kia Optima earned perfect five-star ratings almost totally across the board. This Kia sedan also comes standard with a long list of safety aids, such as forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and driver attention monitoring. With so many safety aids, it’s hard to miss any on-road dangers.
The 2020 Ford Fusion also did well in government crash tests, earning a five-star rating for overall safety. The Co-Pilot360 suite of safety aids — a bundle that includes blind-spot monitoring and forward collision mitigation — is standard on every Fusion. However, the Co-Pilot360 Assist package, which includes adaptive cruise control, is optional equipment for all but the top-trim Fusion Titanium.
Sporty Performance: 2020 Ford Fusion
Whether you’re looking for a quick ride to work or a thrifty commute, the Fusion has an engine option for you. Choose between three engines, the most powerful of which is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (240 horsepower, 270 pound-feet of torque).
In addition to three different engine options, the Fusion offers something you don’t often see at this price level: optional all-wheel drive. This traction-boosting technology means both a sportier ride on winding roads and increased safety on snowy North Carolina roads.
The Kia Optima also provides three engine options, so you can tailor performance to suit your driving style. Like the Fusion, this sedan also offers a speedy turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (245 horses, 260 pound-feet). While the Optima is speedy, it doesn’t offer sporty all-wheel drive.
The 2020 Kia Optima is especially big on safety, but the 2020 Ford Fusion has more of what most drivers want in a midsize sedan. To test-drive this Ford favorite, visit us at LaFayette Ford, your friendly North Carolina Ford dealer.
