2020 Ford Mustang Ecoboost vs GT
Critics, fans, and drivers have spoken. The 2020 Ford Mustang is the best sports car in America. Powerful, stylish, and even affordable, the 2020 Mustang has us all turning our heads when it roars down the street. We can see why you’re thinking of getting one. We think you should. But exactly which Ford Mustang is right for you? This comparison guide is for those who want a Ford Mustang but don’t want to drop the bank on an auto loan. Not to worry. The 2020 Ford Mustang is within your grasp. In this guide, we’ll compare the two most affordable trim levels: the 2020 Mustang Ecoboost and the Mustang GT.
Price: 2020 Ford Mustang Ecoboost
We suspect the “Eco” in Ecoboost stands for economical. How else can you explain that the best domestic sports car starts at the low price of $26,670. That’s well within the price range of most car budgets. Meanwhile, the Mustang GT is going to cost you almost $9 grand more, starting at $35,630. Yes, that’s a huge step up, and we’ll show you the difference in just a minute. But we also wanted to make you aware of the Mustang Ecoboost Premium that slots right between the Ecoboost and GT. This half-step trim starts at $31,865, a nice middle ground for those who want a bit extra.
Power: 2020 Ford Mustang GT
The base engine of the 2020 Ford Mustang is a 310-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual transmission. This powerhouse is plenty peppy out of the gate but the acceleration tapers off in high-rev situations. You can swap out for a 10-speed automatic transmission for an extra $1,600 or so. New for 2020 is the optional 2.3L High Performance package, upping your horsepower by 20 hp and adding active exhaust, a limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes, front and rear sway bars, and re-tuned steering. In case you’re wondering, the Mustang Ecoboost Premium has the same base engine as the Ecoboost.
This is the reason for the bigger price tag on the Mustang GT: the 5.0-liter V8 engine. With 460 horsepower and a deft six-speed manual transmission or refined 10-speed automatic, the GT is a better overall driving experience that easily outrivals the Ecoboost base engine.
Features: 2020 Ford Mustang GT
The final big difference between the Mustang Ecoboost and Mustang GT is the list of standard features. There are plenty of optional packages for the Ecoboost that are worth a look, but the standard items are manually adjustable front seats, proximity keyless entry, rearview camera, six-speaker stereo, voice-controlled SYNC infotainment system, MyKey safety system, and FordPass Connect smartphone system.
The Mustang GT offers all that plus leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, six-way power-adjustable front seats, heated outside mirrors, selectable drive modes, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, and SYNC 3 infotainment system. The Mustang Ecoboost Premium splits the difference: The same standard features as the Mustang GT but with the Ecoboost engine.
Mustang Ecoboost or Mustang GT? There’s a question of affordability versus acceleration here. Which you value more is entirely up to you.
