2020 Ford Mustang vs Nissan 370Z Roadster
Sometimes it’s good to compare the world’s favorite pony car to one of its rivals to remind ourselves how good we have it with the Ford Mustang. Today’s rival is the Nissan 370Z Roadster. There are some key differences between these two cars, but they definitely both fall into the sports car category. In this comparison guide, we show why the Ford Mustang has been and continues to be a sports car favorite.
Performance: 2020 Ford Mustang
The 2020 Mustang has engine options that range from impressive to truly awesome. The base engine is a 310-horsepower 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. A new package soups up that same engine to 330 horses. That’s an impressive start but it only gets better from there. The optional 5.0-liter V8 engine comes in the Mustang GT and harnesses a whopping 460 horses. At the top of the line, we find the Shelby models. The Shelby GT350 offers 526 horsepower from its 5.2-liter V8 engine. The Shelby GT500 supercharges that same engine to make 760 horsepower, which is the top of the line for the whole class.
Meanwhile, the Nissan 370Z narrows your options to a single engine: a 332- to 350-horsepower V6 engine. At least it accelerates quickly, but there’s not a lot more going for it. And it doesn’t hold a candle to the engines in the Ford Mustang.
Fuel Economy: 2020 Ford Mustang
Conventional wisdom says the brawnier the wisdom, the worse the gas mileage. Not in this case, grasshopper. Because the 2020 Ford Mustang wins this category as well. The Mustang gets 21 city miles and 32 highway miles per gallon, which is impressive for a sports car. On the other hand, the 2020 Nissan 370Z gets 19 city and 26 highway miles per gallon. Even with other engine options, the power scales better with fuel economy in the Mustang.
Passenger Seating and Trunk Space: 2020 Ford Mustang
This isn’t really a fair comparison because the Ford Mustang is a pony car while the Nissan 370Z is a roadster. To wit, the Mustang has a back seat and trunk while the Nissan Roadster has neither. The Mustang offers 13.5 cubic feet of trunk space in the fastback configuration and 11.4 cubes in the convertible. While that doesn’t sound like much, it’s more than most sports cars, which tend to go up to 10 cubes and never much more.
Price: 2020 Ford Mustang
Despite everything we’ve just covered, the 2020 Ford Mustang still costs less than the Nissan 370Z. The 2020 Mustang starts at $26,670 while the 2020 Nissan roadster starts at $30,090. Furthermore, the Ford Mustang has more standard features than the comparable Nissan rival. Yes, indeed, we have it good with the Mustang.
