2020 Ford Transit Connect vs Dodge Promaster City
At first glance, it’s tough to tell the 2020 Ford Transit Connect and Ram Promaster City apart. But LaFayette Ford’s comparison guide is here to help. With a little knowledge, you’ll drive home in the commercial van that suits your needs.
Modern Comfort: 2020 Ford Transit Connect
Planning to spend a lot of time in your next commercial van? Then you’ll love the Transit Connect. Ford’s alternative to the full-size commercial van supplies generous modern comfort, from its roomy, supportive seats to its upscale options, including leather seats and rear climate controls.
The Transit Connect is available as either a commercial cargo van or commercial passenger van. Depending on body style, passenger versions offer roomy comfort for up to seven passengers.
When it comes to modern comfort, the Ram Promaster City falls a little behind. For starters, compared to the Transit Connect, its ride quality isn’t as smooth. Also, some divers may struggle to feel comfortable behind the wheel; the driver’s seat is awkwardly situated.
Ram’s commercial van is also available as either a commercial cargo hauler or passenger van. However, the passenger version only offers seating for up to five people.
Helpful Tech Features: 2020 Ford Transit Connect
For 2020, the Transit Connect is making life on the road much simpler, thanks to a long list of newly standard tech features. For example, rain-sensing wipers automatically alter settings according to rainfall conditions. Automatic headlights pop on when they’re needed. When you’re backing in and out of alleys, the standard rearview camera is a very helpful tool. The forward collision warning system, which includes automatic emergency braking, is another boon in city driving.
The Ram Promaster City is a bit more basic, especially when it comes to standard tech features. You do get a rearview camera at no extra cost. Like the Transit Connect, Ram’s commercial van also treats you to standard air-conditioning and remote locking and unlocking technology.
Maneuverability and Practicality: 2020 Ford Transit Connect
The Transit Connect is very easy to handle in a tight spot, thanks to its car-based platform. It’s also a great fit for downtown parking spaces. Choose between a rear liftgate or rear doors that swing open 180 degrees for easy curbside loading and unloading.
With a car-based chassis of its own, the Promaster City is also pretty maneuverable. However, it’s not quite as easy to handle in a tight spot. We do like its split-opening rear cargo doors, which come in handy for quick loading and unloading operations. But the Promaster City doesn’t give you the option of a rear liftgate.
Moves the Most Stuff: It’s (Almost) a Tie!
As a full-size commercial van, the Promaster City supplies both plentiful cargo space and towing capabilities. Depending on body configuration (you can choose from different wheelbases and roof heights), this Ram van offers up to 131.7 cubic feet of cargo space. It’s also pretty hefty in the towing department, towing max loads of 2,000 pounds.
But the 2020 Ford Transit Connect is also an impressive little workhorse. Depending on body style, this Ford van offers up to 145.8 cubes of cargo space. It will also tow a trailer full of extra supplies, with max tow ratings of 2,000 pounds.
While the 2020 Ram Promaster City has a lot to offer, the 2020 Ford Transit Connect is a favorite among city-dwellers and around-town delivery drivers. It’s the commercial van that’s easier to handle, and it’s also loaded with modern features to buoy driver comfort during a long workday.
