Are you trying to decide between the 2021 Ford Edge and Nissan Rogue? Ford’s midsize crossover SUV and Nissan’s small crossover are both very popular, but for their own reasons. Let’s take a look at what those reasons are. By the end of our comparison guide, you’ll know which model you prefer.
Spend Less: 2021 Nissan Rogue
As a compact crossover, the Nissan Rogue costs less than the midsize Ford Edge. Nissan’s popular crossover starts at $25,850. The Edge, meanwhile, starts at $31,250. And the Nissan Rogue will also help you conserve at the pump. This little crossover earns up to 30 mpg combined (27 city/35 highway mpg).
The Ford Edge, meanwhile, offers a variety of EPA ratings, depending on which powertrain you select. With the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the Edge achieves its highest rating, 24 mpg combined (21/29 mpg).
Go Faster: 2021 Ford Edge
While the Nissan Rogue is the more conservative crossover, the Edge is the sportier option. For starters, you get to choose from two engines. The aforementioned turbocharged four-cylinder engine (250 horsepower, 275 pound-feet of torque) is pretty fast. And the Edge ST trim model, with its exclusive twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 (335 hp, 380 lb-ft), is even faster.
The Edge’s base engine comes with a quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. With this powertrain, all-wheel drive is optional. Add it for premium performance on light trails and wet pavement. And the sporty ST model gets a new, performance-based seven-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive.
There’s only one engine available for the 2021 Nissan Rogue, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (181 hp, 181 lb-ft). But the Rogue isn’t really meant to be super sporty. Instead, with its continuously variable transmission, it aims to conserve fuel.
Tow More: 2021 Ford Edge
How big is your boat? Knowing how much you need to tow can be the deciding factor here. As you might’ve guessed by now, the bigger, more powerful Edge can tow more, with max loads of up to 3,500 pounds. The Nissan Rogue, on the other hand, can’t tow more than 1,350 pounds.
Revel in Luxury: 2021 Ford Edge
How much passenger space do you require? If you’re looking for a family-friendly cabin and a little extra cargo space, check out the Edge. As the midsize model, it offers more room for your family’s heads, legs, and elbows, especially in the rear seats. Behind those rear seats, you can fill 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space with outdoor gear or shopping bags. And the Edge’s options — like leather-trimmed upholstery, front sport seats, and the premium 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system — can create a truly luxurious ride.
When it comes to seating, the smaller Nissan Rogue is surprisingly roomy, even if its backseats don’t sport quite as much legroom. However, behind the rear seats, there are only 36.5 cubic feet for your stuff. But we do have to give the Rogue credit for its luxury options. Few other compact crossovers offer quilted leather seats.
Endnotes
The 2021 Nissan Rogue is a pretty cool little crossover that will definitely save you a few bucks. But the 2021 Ford Edge is our overall favorite. Choose Ford’s midsize crossover for the most in family-friendly space, premium power, and sporty towing capabilities.
