The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning and Hummer EV Pickup are revolutionizing the way we think about trucks. Both models deliver incredible power and capabilities, without using a drop of gas. Which EV truck should you choose? Our comparison guide is here to answer your questions.
Friendliest Price: 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
The F-150 Lightning offers the lowest possible price on a brand new, battery-powered truck. The entry-level Pro trim level starts at $39,974. Three other trim models are available, with an MSRP that ranges all the way up to $90,874 for the luxurious Platinum model.
GM is staggering each release of its Hummer EV pickup models, and the next available model is the Hummer EV 3X. It’s due out in fall 2022, with a starting price of $99,995. The Hummer EV 2X, starting at $89,995, is scheduled for release in spring of 2023.
Pure Power: 2022 Hummer EV Pickup
The Hummer EV Edition 1 uses three battery-powered motors to supply 1,000 horsepower. GM also says that special technology (known as the “Watts to Freedom” feature) helps this oversized pickup go from 0 to 60 mpg in a mere 3 seconds.
There are two powertrains available for the F-150 Lightning. The standard battery pack supplies 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. To maximize this EV truck’s capabilities, upgrade to the extended-range battery pack, which boosts output to 563 horses and 775 lb-ft of torque.
Max Towing: 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Each of these EV pickups is certainly powerful. However, when it comes to towing the biggest trailer, the F-150 Lightning has the advantage. With the Max Trailer Tow package and extended-range battery, the F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 pounds.
GM estimates that a properly equipped Hummer Edition 1 EV pickup can tow max loads of 7,500 pounds. We don’t yet know how much future trim models can handle, however.
Modern Features: 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Both of these all-new EVs offer all kinds of impressive tech features, including self-driving systems (Super Cruise in the Hummer EV and BlueCruise in the F-150 Lightning). These vehicles also come standard with cutting-edge infotainment gear, like big touchscreens and wireless smartphone connectivity.
However, the F-150 Lighting has even more to love. The available Pro Power Onboard station lets you set up shop anywhere, giving you the ability to power up tools or recharge batteries. You can even use the truck’s battery as a generator, powering your home during bad weather.
Choose Your Rugged EV
The 2022 Hummer EV Pickup is incredibly powerful, but it’s the F-150 Lightning that delivers greater towing capabilities, cutting-edge utility features, and a much more reasonable price.
