Although the 2022 Ford Maverick and Chevy Silverado EV both strive to deliver a greener performance, these trucks are actually very, very different. The Maverick is Ford’s all-new compact truck, which comes standard with a peppy hybrid powertrain and city-friendly dimensions. The Silverado EV is Chevy’s upcoming EV full-size truck, a battery-powered model designed to compete with the Ford F-150 Lightning. But if you’re wondering whether you should choose the Maverick or the Silverado EV, we’re here to help you out.
Price: 2022 Ford Maverick
The Maverick is the much more budget-friendly choice. As a compact truck, you wouldn’t expect it to cost more than the full-size Silverado EV, anyway. Its starting price of $19,995, though, is especially thrifty.
The base Chevy Silverado EV starts around $40,000, and the fully-loaded RST model is expected to start around $105,000.
Modern Style & Comfort: 2022 Ford Maverick
The new Maverick is available as three trim models: the base XL, mid-grade XLT, and classy Lariat. Having so many options means that drivers can balance what they want to spend with available luxury features (including optional dual-zone automatic climate control, heated seats, and a B&O premium sound system).
So far, the only Silverado EV trim models that are scheduled for release are the base Work Truck (WT) and mid-grade RST. Chevy hasn’t released the full spec sheet for these trucks, but the regular gas-powered WT is no-frills, with vinyl seating and crank windows. The RST is a Silverado trim model that’s known for its sporty styling, with unique exterior trim and wheels. However, neither of these Silverado models is really known for their luxury options.
Towing Capabilities: 2024 Chevy Silverado EV
As a full-size truck, the Silverado EV has more muscle than the smaller Maverick. Chevy says that the standard version of the Silverado EV will be able to tow max loads of 8,000 pounds. Upgrade to the RST model for an EV truck that can tow max loads of 10,000 pounds.
The all-new Maverick is the world’s first compact truck, and it’s much more of a city slicker than the Silverado EV. With the base hybrid powertrain, the Maverick can tow up to 2,000 pounds. Choose the turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and you can tow max loads of up to 4,000 pounds.
