Which heavy-duty truck is the better workhorse, the 2022 Ford Super Duty or Chevy Silverado HD? Our comparison guide is here to help you figure out which of these American trucks delivers more power, towing potential, and modern creature comforts.
Lowest Starting Price: 2022 Ford Super Duty
The Ford Super Duty gives you a bit of an edge here, thanks to its starting MSRP of $37,495. However, the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD is only a little more expensive, starting at $38,500. The price for both trucks will rise accordingly, depending on which trim model and equipment you select.
Heftiest Powertrains: 2022 Ford Super Duty
Super Duty shoppers can choose from three heavy-duty powertrains:
- 6.2-liter gasoline V8 (385 horsepower, 430 pound-feet of torque) + six-speed automatic transmission
- 7.3L gasoline V8 (430 hp, 475 lb-ft) + 10-speed automatic
- 6.7L turbocharged diesel V8 (475 hp, 1,050 lb-ft) + 10-speed automatic
Compared to the Silverado HD, the Ford Super Duty offers an extra gas-powered engine to enhance hauling capabilities. If you prefer to focus on moving heavy trailers, upgrade to the turbodiesel engine to maximize towing performance.
There are two Silverado HD powertrain options:
- 6.6L V8 (401 hp, 464 lb-ft) + six-speed automatic
- 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 (445 hp, 910 lb-ft) + 10-speed automatic
As you can see, the Silverado HD doesn’t give you quite as much power or tow-friendly torque. However, its heavy-duty powertrains are pretty impressive in their own right, giving you plenty of power to move major weight.
Max Capabilities: 2022 Ford Super Duty
The Ford Super Duty lineup can help you tow or haul the most weight, depending on your unique needs. The Super Duty truck that tows the biggest payloads is the F-450. Equipped for gooseneck towing, it can reach max loads of 37,000 pounds. The F-350 can haul the biggest payloads, moving up to 7,850 pounds.
The Silverado HD lineup comes close to these figures, but lags behind enough that it may make a difference for many heavy-duty drivers. Properly equipped, the Silverado 3500 HD can tow up to 36,000 pounds or haul up to 7,442 pounds.
Modern Creature Comforts: It’s a Tie!
No matter which truck you end up driving home, you can count on a roomy, comfortable interior. These heavy-duty trucks are available with regular, extended, or crew cabins. And both offer a wide range of trim levels, so you can purchase as much luxury as suits your budget.
Available features for both the Super Duty and Silverado HD trucks include heated seats, handsome leather upholstery, and upgraded infotainment systems with bigger touchscreens and wireless smartphone charging pads.
