Ford has recently been making waves with all the electricity they have been adding to their lineup. The Ford F-150 Lightning has set the standard for electric pickups and is possibly one of the best EVs in production. The Mustang Mach-E is a quick and classy electric crossover that has polarized audiences on the use of the Pony name. Recently Ford released the compact Maverick truck. This truck came with a hybrid engine as standard, getting 45 mpg in town and 33 mpg on the highway. The Maverick is quite possibly one of Ford’s fastest selling cars, with one of the longest wait times from your order. The Maverick takes almost 8 months from the ordering date until you have this awesome compact truck in your garage. Now Ford is going to add an electric powertrain to the Maverick with the moniker Lightning. This news may come as a surprise to some, but with the outrageous sales that Ford has been having on their electric vehicles, there’s no doubt they want to add electric powertrains to more of their popular vehicles. One we are most excited for is the Ford Maverick Lighting, set to possibly debut in 2024.
Why Do We Know the Ford Maverick Lightning is coming?
Ford recently filed for trademark applications in Europe for the name Maverick Lightning, and Ranger Lightning. Ford itself has not directly announced the Maverick Lightning as an upcoming vehicle but there are many indications that the fully electric Maverick is on its way. The CEO Jim Farley has also mentioned that there may be more electric vehicles upcoming, giving more weight to the trademark applications. Not only that but Ford also filed applications for the Maverick Thunder and F-150 Thunder, which many have assumed will be plug-in hybrid variants of the vehicles. There is currently more evidence to support that there will be a PHEV version of the Maverick than an electric version. A Ford Maverick prototype was recently spotted with all the bells and whistles of a PHEV. So while rumors and evidence abound, again Ford has not directly announced an upcoming Maverick Electric variant.
When Might We Get Official News on these Vehicles?
If we follow Ford’s Track Record, these vehicles will be announced the year before they are available for sale. The Mustang Mach-E was announced in November 2019, and then went on sale December 2020. Similarly, the F-150 Lightning was announced in May 2021, and then went on sale and into production in 2022. In both instances it is important to note, that immediately following the announcement, refundable deposit orders/reservations opened. These orders were the first people to receive their vehicles. If you are interested in the Ford Maverick Lightning and want to be the first to receive this electric compact truck, make sure to stick to the Ford news outlet. Based on the previous examples we can assume that Ford will release the news of the Maverick Lightning, the year prior to when it will be released. Check this space during 2023 for any announcements on the Maverick Lightning.
Summary
Ford is betting on electric vehicles, mainly because of the high sales they have had on existing electric vehicles. Ford may triple their number of electric trucks in the near future, and double their number of electric vehicles overall. We are excited to see what Ford will do with the Maverick electric variant.
